This work celebrates two beautiful festivals of Mexico and India — Día de Muertos and Deepavali. On the left, a girl-butterfly stands behind a wall, watching the sunrise through the jungle, wings resting as she reminisces about distant Tenochtitlán. A jaguar descends from a tree, its skin adorned with flowers hinting at the spirit world of Día de Muertos. A string of third eyes on his back symbolizes time’s circular nature. On the right, she is ready to fly across oceans in the sunset; the flame in her center represents victory over darkness, ignorance, or evil, as celebrated in Deepavali, the Indian festival of lights. Butterflies seem impossibly delicate, yet many species carry biological hardware for transcontinental migration with no fixed reference points, requiring precise alignment of their circadian clock with the sun, sky, and wind. Imagine the data-processing skill they possess — the very thing we humans keep striving for!
Esta obra celebra dos hermosas festividades de México y la India: el Día de Muertos y Deepavali. A la izquierda, una niña-mariposa se encuentra tras un muro, observando el amanecer a través de la selva, con las alas en reposo mientras recuerda la lejana Tenochtitlán. Un jaguar desciende de un árbol, su piel adornada con flores que aluden al mundo espiritual del Día de Muertos. Una hilera de terceros ojos en su lomo simboliza la naturaleza circular del tiempo. A la derecha, ella está lista para volar a través de los océanos hacia el atardecer; la llama en su centro representa la victoria sobre la oscuridad, la ignorancia o el mal, tal como se celebra en Deepavali, el festival indio de las luces. Las mariposas parecen impensablemente delicadas, y sin embargo, muchas especies poseen un mecanismo biológico para migrar a través de continentes sin puntos de referencia fijos, lo que exige una alineación precisa entre su reloj circadiano, el sol, el cielo y el viento. Imagina la capacidad de procesamiento de datos que poseen: ¡justamente lo que los humanos seguimos intentando alcanzar!
